Past Events

Inaugural AMCS Day Applied Mathematical and Computational Sciences (AMCS) program organized its first AMCS Day on April 20th, 2019, in collaboration with SIAM student chapter. Two major activities were student research presentations and panel discussion with faculty of career opportunities. We had eight students present their graduate research work. Many faculty members from different departments were in attendance and took part in the panel discussion for career opportunities.
Pi Day SIAM student chapter celebrated the day with Math graduate board (MGB), a student-run organization for the graduate students in the math dept. We had a good crowd show up to enjoy some pie.
Seminar on Preparing for a Career in Mathematics This event was organized by SIAM student chapter in collaboration with Dept. of Mathematics, especially with the assistance of Dr. Cynthia Farthing. Jamie Cavey-Lang, Associate Director of Outcomes and Career Advisor at the Pomerantz Career Center, The University of Iowa, was invited to talk to undergraduates about how to prepare for a math job after graduation. We had a good crowd of undergraduates students in attendance. The event took place on March 6th, 2019.
